CMIP to SNMP translation technique based on rule description

The Simple Network Management Protocol(SNMF) and the Common Management Information Protocol (CMIF) are popular for network management. The integration of these protocols i s important because networks are continually ezpanding and becoming more and more complex. The management information carried b y various management protocols is as different as the management protocols. A s a consequence of all this, management information translation i s required. This paper proposes a method for translating SNMP into CMIP using a rule description. The method is applicable to both the Network Management Forum translation method and the method for associating an SNMP object with an existing CMIP object. In order to evaluate this method, we constructed the Management Information Translation for an Integrated Syst em (MITIS) and showed the validity of this method from the view point of performance.
